Siem Reap: Siem Reap will have an upcoming public buses as the provincial authority is preparing to set up intercity bus lines to meet the tourism growth and reduce traffic congestion in the city.
Meng Chhun Heng, director of Siem Reap’s Public Transport Department, said at a meeting on the Study of the Possibility of Organizing a Public Transport System by Bus in Siem Reap on Wednesday that Siem Reap’s rapid growth of domestic and international tourists and the increasing number of vehicles in the province is the first priority in the development of public transport projects in the city.
He said that the technical assistance project will be financed in a form of a grant aid by the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, managed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Currently, the traffic conditions on the National Road Network are busy and congested every day, for it sees the increasing number of vehicles and there is no proper means of public transportation.
The project of Intercity Bus is for the benefit of the people. It will provide comfortable travel, safer, time-saving and budget, reducing the use of personal transportation to reduce congestion and traffic accidents, reducing fuel consumption, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the citizens’ health impact and enhancing civilization to attract tourists.
