[:km]Phnom Penh: A senior official of the Cambodian government confirmed that the government will review and discuss the number of annual holidays soon.
Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Porn Moniroth said at a meeting on January 30 that the government will review and re-discuss the holiday in the near future. However, he did not elaborate on details as to when the talk will be held.
According to Cambodia’s calendar, in 2019 Cambodia has 28 days of public holiday, excluding Saturdays and Sundays or extra days.
Oknha Lim Heng, vice-president of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, said that regarding to the holiday the Chamber of Commerce and Ministry of Labor raised the matter to Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Aun Porn Moniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance, and he agreed to accept to study, which is a green signal for Cambodia.
“Reduction in the number of holidays contributes to reducing the production cost and in Cambodia there are 28 days of holiday spending in 2019. If public holiday is on Saturdays or Sundays, it replace another day and is a problem that blocks some production chains,” Mr Heng said.
Oknha Lim Heng said that the minimum wage is high for workers and that should be reduction of some holidays, as he expects Samdech Techo will consider this.[:]
